About us
The Groundfridge was designed in 2012 by Floris Schoonderbeek. Driven by the desire to use more local produce, he encountered the limitations of his former home in Arnhem. As a product designer, he then laid the foundation for the Groundfridge as an energy-neutral food storage solution.
Meanwhile, our team is working to spread the concept around the world by making it increasingly smarter and more sustainable. Floris is still involved in the product's continued development and in activating the community of like-minded individuals.
Team Groundfridge is no longer working alone. We operate within an inspiring ecosystem of companies with the same mindset. Together with partners like Raintap, Fiction Factory, Cabiner, and Wikkelhouse, we are located in Amsterdam-Noord.

Meet our chef!
The Groundfridge team works from the Fiction Factory in Amsterdam. Here, our communal cook prepares meals daily for about 50 people using fresh produce that she stores in the on-site Groundfridge.
No one else has as much experience with the actual use of the Groundfridge as she does, which is why we interviewed her about all the do's and don'ts she has encountered over the years.
The designer
The Groundfridge was designed by Dutch designer Floris Schoonderbeek. Floris is known for his pragmatic approach and sustainable solutions in which technology, functionality, and enjoyment seamlessly intertwine.
His portfolio includes the award-winning Dutchtub, the Loloo charger for electric cars, and the Raintap. After previously founding the outdoor brand Weltevree, he is currently a pioneer in new methods of sustainable land use through Circle Farming.
The builders
Fiction Factory acts as the operational partner for Groundfridge, handling both assembly and distribution. While Fiction typically constructs the complete interiors for large museums and hotels, for Groundfridge they ensure that each unit leaves the workshop perfectly assembled and packaged.
Fiction is also the inventive team behind Wikkelhouse, the unique, modular space that can serve many purposes, from a holiday home to a backyard office.
